Concept of a Top-down Detection Platform for Ultra Long-range Interception Operations

    • The biggest challenge in designing missiles to intercept stealth aircraft 1 000 kilometers away lies in detecting stealth aircraft, outputting high-precision target location information, and how to search and lock onto targets within a limited time to achieve a closed-loop accuracy chain for interception operations. In this article, by analyzing the radar scattering characteristics of the typical stealth aircraft target F-22, it is pointed out that the radar cross section of F-22 will significantly increase when the top view angle is above 50 °. A concept of closed-loop accuracy chain for ultra long-range stealth target interception based on the top view detection strategy and the strategy of rapidly constructing a low-cost front-end time-sensitive detection system is completed. The technical requirements of the time-sensitive detection platform are analyzed, and the detection distance of the system for the typical target F-22 is derived. The "boost-glide" trajectory simulation is carried out, and the process of completing closed-loop accuracy chain for ultra long-range interception operations is preliminarily demonstrated, forming a research idea for the detection platform and the strategy of ultra long-range missile interception operations. Through detailed simulation, calculation, and demonstration, it is demonstrated that this concept is not only cost-effective, but also promising to lead the air defense combat concept moving from fixed positions and chimney style architecture to highly mobile deployment and distributed collaboration.
