Research progress on wide-angle scanning technology for shared-aperture phased arrays

    • Shared-Aperture Phased Array Antennas (SAPAA) have been widely used in fields such as Synthetic Aperture Radar, airborne conformal antennas, and spaceborne radar antennas due to their advantages of high space utilization, miniaturization, lightweight, and multi-polarization. With the advancement of technology, an increasing number of phased array antenna systems are striving for wider beam scanning capabilities to achieve a coverage range of at least ±60°, and SAPAA with high-performance wide-angle scanning has attracted more and more attention. Firstly, the research background and significance of wide-angle scanning SAPAA are introduced. Subsequently, starting from the key technical supports for realizing the wide-angle scanning performance of SAPAA, the design methods of wide-beam elements of SAPAA and the wide-angle impedance matching techniques of SAPAA are mainly reviewed. Finally, focusing on the actual application requirements, the wide-angle scanning SAPAA is classified according to its polarization modes.
