Integrated Radar and Communication Signal Design Based on Phase / Chirp Rate Modulated LFM Signal

Abstract
Radar-communication integration is an important way to resist to the complicated electromagnetic interference, in which the design of the integrated signal, based on linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal, is one of the key technologies to the radar-communication integration. Based on phase/ chirp rate modulated LFM, a design method of integrated radar-communication signal is proposed in this paper. Focusing on the standard LFM modulated by additional phase or chirp rate, a bank of signals, which enjoy satisfactory autocorrelation and cross-correlation characteristics, are finally established. Basis for the parameter selections in the design and performance analysis in terms of radar detection and communication scenario are provided in simulation results, which confirms the advantages of the designed signal in the applications of detection and communication.
