Abstract
Based on the need for high spatial and temporal resolution detection of extreme catastrophic weather, an implementation method for an S-band phased array weather radar system is proposed in this paper, employing a flat array antenna and fully digital transceiver components, and featuring dual-linear polarization. The key technologies involved are studied and analyzed, and a scanning strategy design based on intra pulse frequency phase scanning multi beam, as well as an online calibration design concept based on an internal calibration system, are proposed. Finally, experimental observations of severe convective weather are conducted using an engineering prototype developed, and compared with the observation data from the CINRAD/ SAD radar. The comparative results show that the engineering prototype, designed using this method, possesses certain advantages in observing severe convective weather.
